Background: The need to build a third Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Free hospital is just an understatement. Especially in our country the ratio of 1 out of 10 children born with a heart disease is just overwhelming. Sanjeevani hospital is the only Free hospital in this space to cure those children who are less privileged and needy. The first of its kind is established in Navi Raipur, Chattisgarh, followed by the second hospital in Palwal, Haryana. The third one is strategically planned in Navi Mumbai, to cater to Mid-Western India. The timeline for constructing this Hospital was just 11 months that includes identifying the land, acquiring necessary building permissions and construction. It is a challenge no matter how big or technically advanced one is to undertake such a massive operation especially in the heart of Navi Mumbai.
Aspire to build When you are ready for the next level challenge and make a wish! the divine will include you in the plans as well. The chairman, SSSHET Shri. C. Sreenivas Ji, is set on a mission to set up as many free hospitals as possible to address the needy children with cardiac ailments. He is touched and blessed by the supreme divine himself to undertake the mission forward. As far as I know, if not for Sreenivas Anna there is no one to take up this impossible mission.
We Aspire Infra, got an opportunity to meet the chairman and discuss construction activity at Navi Mumbai. Little did we know the challenges and timelines involved. Thanks to the chairman, who is ever encouraging and inspiring to all of us, we have been chosen/given opportunity to build the modern marvel.
Under the hood Like the other two Sanjeevani Hospitals, this project is also architecture in heart-shaped mega structure. The sheer size of the building will be seen from skies once built. It is a visual delight to see the similar projects at Raipur and Palwal. The unique challenge to built in Navi-Mumbai is the site and soil conditions apart from other logistic issues from the locals. The proposed land is a low-lying region and surrounded by hills. There is lot of water collection and as we all know the Mumbai rains can make things worse during the monsoons.
Team up Aspire infra team is all from Bangalore and Hyderabad and no one even imagined we would take up a construction project in Mumbai (of all the places). Initially only one engineer was ready to relocate. We were winding up a residential project in Bangalore and the entire team was getting freed-up. The timing for us was so apt and there was every reason for the team to look for a next challenge.
Once everyone came to know of the Sanjeevani hospital design and engineering marvel, everyone was up for the life time opportunity to be a part of the epic project. Apart of the directors Anil and Sagar, there were 4 engineers and 2 senior project managers all relocated to put focus only one project.
Land of locals Unlike any other city, Mumbai has unique dynamics when it comes to the construction and raw material procurement. Aspire team is all new to this form of dynamics and did not understand how to address the local logistics. There is process of locals audit of material purchase. Which took bit of time for us to understand and once we did, we had mastered it. The whole point is to not disturb the local fabric of supply chain for any procurement and supply of materials relating to the construction industry. We were able to manage and complete the construction of the hospital without any disruptions of any kind.
When mission is bigger Any challenge or the issue seems to be smaller. The NGO which is solely run by the chairman Dr. C. Sreenivas, has undertaken the mission to building Free of cost child heart care hospitals across India and world across. I have seen first-hand all the challenges faced by the chairman to take up this project. Inspite of the service oriented free of cost hospital, the challenges of official approvals remains the same. Keeping in mind the mission on hand, the chairman patiently pushes the process of approvals from various levels. Once we have approvals, the land terrain pose a bigger challenge. Being the low lying area most of the 5 Acre land allotted to the hospital was submerged under water upto 5 feet. Drawing inspiration from the chairman and blessing of the divine, we had drained water into the storm-water drains using industrial pumps. It seemed like the local dynamics and challenging construction on fast track got resolved by itself as we made progress.
Universe has to conspire One when you believe in the divine, the miracles unfold. For anyone to comprehend to plan and build such a engineering marvel in a most challenging locale in a short period of one year itself is no less of a miracle. I can give a ton of examples where the things happened without anyone’s intervention so that the progress is not halted.
Be it a supplier, vendor, engineers, equipment procurement etc, everyone and everything that has to come together happened without much effort or trouble. may be this is the principle of nature to make it happened when its supposed to.
Temple of healing what started as a construction of a challenging engineering marvel which excited all of us. once the construction of completed and medical services have begun, the viewpoint is totally different now. It gives a great joy when a child who is venerable and not so privileged getting a second life walks out of the hospital healthy.
Worth the efforts History speaks about the successful completion. we are so glad to be a part of this journey and its just transformational. Without knowing everyone had contributed and put fourth the best efforts. Not to mention there were bit of sacrifices on the personal fronts and its just worth the efforts.
